About the Mission
About the Mission
We are missionaries
serving with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA); in the Service
and Justice Unit.
The ELCA has
partnerships with 80+ companion churches in countries all over the world.
The work of every
missionary in the ELCA is guided by the crucial model of Accompaniment.
Accompaniment
is defined as walking together in a solidarity that practices
interdependence and mutuality.

Accompaniment is
lived out in relationship with global companions. Through relationship, we
strive to share God’s love and enact God’s mission together. Accompaniment is
practiced through these five crucial tenets.
Sustainably: To ensure local ministries last for
a long time, we seek to embed mission in ongoing relationships and
communities.
Mutually: All of us have gifts to support God’s
mission. There is no mission to, only
mission with and among.
Inclusively: We seek to build relationships
across boundaries that exclude and divide.
Vulnerably: Just as Jesus became vulnerable to us, we
open ourselves to others.
Empowering: We seek to identify and correct
imbalances of power, which may mean recognizing and letting go of our own.

The Japan
Evangelical Lutheran Church has had a long partnership with the ELCA; and in
particular, the South Carolina Synod. It is through this long partnership with
the JELC that Tee and I are being sent to Tokyo Lutheran Church.

the JELC, check out their beautiful website! https://jelc.or.jp/

Our work as
missionaries are supported by both individuals and congregations! We’d be
deeply honored and delighted to have you join us on this adventure.
